Well, bust my buttons (and sell yours, quickly and for a handsome price, I hope). I always thought it was “Lonesome ROADS Beck” — as in the lyrics to the song — “Look down, look down that lonesome road before you travel on.” But I never quite understood the reference. Please don’t tell me he was a Rhodes scholar!

    • sthibeault Says:

Lonesome Rhodes is the name of the snarky, abusive “voice of the people” radio announcer played by Andy Griffith in “A Face in the Crowd.” Beck is definitely not a Rhodes scholar! And not a charming, twangy lament– though his influence is lamentable–which also has a connection to Andy Griffith when it was performed in a classic episode by Jack Prince as Rafe Hollister.

Can’t sell any buttons, cuz you’ve got the button box!

Your Asteroids game looks like it has buttons though.

PS That was quite an annotation to the question of “Lonesome Rhodes'” identity. Thanks you sooo much. Did Mom tell you that one of the unexpected “perks” of her stay in Atlanta was daily doses of Billo the Clown? (Bobbi also watches LR, but didn’t make Mom endure him, too.) Other than Fox news, Mom had a terrific time with Bobbi and her family. Bobbi is as good as, or probably better than, a sister!
